Panasonic announces World’s first Blu-ray Disc player LSI

Panasonic has introduced the world’s first Blu-ray Disc (BD) player-specific single-chip signal processing LSI. The product, the MN2WS006, will combine a front end to read the signal from the BD, and a back end to convert that into AV documents. Utilizing multi-standard video decoding technology, Panasonic MN2WS006 enables video playback for BD, DVD, and CD media, and standards including MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and VC-1; audio playback compatible with lossless coding; and dual-screen
The single-ship MN2WS006 device for the signal processing system is achieved through the use of micro processing, which results in 50% reduction in mounting surface area, and 25% reduction in potential consumption, compared to current offerings by the company. Samples of MN2WS006 will start shipping in June 2008.
